After all, bell-bottom jeans seem to have been popular among Lebanese militia men in 1970s newsreels, but I’ve never seen fatigues.

On another note, when asked if the battle in Saida had affected the camp, a Shatila NGO coordinator shrugged. “They tried to get the Palestinians involved, but they refused. They are smart.”

She believed Ahmed Assir was being funded by Qatar adding that the outgoing Emir’s son would pick a successor.

“Assir was for the father, but his son will find a new Assir,” she said, sighing.
